Day 1's Notes - Continued
Iceland is known for its rapidly changing weather; rain and sun often come and go in the blink of an eye. You should keep a close watch on the sky, as a rainbow can suddenly appear and then quietly fade away. If you are lucky, you might even spot a double rainbow.
These sights inevitably remind me of the time of Noah. When humanity was filled with wickedness and corruption, God used a flood to cleanse the earth. Yet, He used the rainbow to establish a covenant with mankind. It is a sign of His promise, symbolizing God's faithfulness and His vow never to destroy the world in such a way again.
When I stare at the rainbow, the colorful sight makes me feel warm and happy. When you visit Iceland, remember to look at the sky often. You might find a rainbow or two smiling at you.

Hringvegur (Route 1)
Hringvegur, or Route 1, is Iceland’s main ring road, circling the entire country for about 821 miles (1,333 kilometers). As the country's most important transport route, it connects most of Iceland's major towns and cities. It is famous as the ultimate road trip destination, passing through diverse and dramatic landscapes. We were driving east on the Ring Road (Route 1), and the scenery was exceptional and beautiful. However, a crucial safety tip: when stopping to take pictures, never pull over on the road shoulder. Instead, use designated pull-outs, parking areas, or farmer's roads.
Geothermal Energy
When driving past geothermal areas, I'd observe plumes of white steam rising into the air. Iceland is a world leader in geothermal energy, leveraging this resource to heat approximately 90% of its homes and meet about a quarter of its electricity needs. The country primarily harnesses this resource through a network of major geothermal power plants and extensive district heating systems. Overall, geothermal and hydropower provide over 82% of Iceland's total energy supply. Iceland began seriously developing geothermal energy during the 1970s oil crisis, and the availability of this cheap, renewable power has subsequently attracted energy-intensive industries. Beyond household heating, geothermal energy is crucial for powering greenhouses, supporting local food production. Among its seven major geothermal power stations is the Hellisheiði Power Plant, which is one of the world's largest and is responsible for heating the capital, Reykjavík.
suðurland/Southern Land 南部區
Continuing eastward, we arrived at the Southern Land. Suðurland, or the "Southern Land," is Iceland's most popular and dramatic tourist region. It is a landscape defined by raw natural power, featuring glaciers, volcanoes, and stark black sand beaches like Reynisfjara. The region is famous for iconic waterfalls such as Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss. Key natural reserves include the expansive Vatnajökull and Þingvellir National Parks, while the town of Selfoss serves as the largest regional hub.

🚘 Stay tuned for more Icelandic adventures!
