Formosa Boulevard Station

I took my daughter to visit Kaohsiung by high-speed rail. We got off at Zuoying Station and transferred to the Kaohsiung MRT. At Formosa Boulevard Station, where the Red Line and Orange Line intersect, we made an effort to see the "Dome of Light," which was hand-painted by the internationally acclaimed artist Maestro Narcissus Quagliata. The dome was created using handmade glass from the century-old Derix Glass Studio in Germany.

This public artwork conveys the spirit of "inclusiveness," using four main sections to represent "water," "earth," "light," and "fire." It depicts the journey of human life — from birth and growth to glory, destruction, and eventual rebirth.

Maestro Quagliata expressed that through this work, he aimed to convey the value of human nature, the relationships between people, the environment, and all living things — capturing the unity between humanity and nature, and what the human heart loses in the struggle of hatred. He emphasized his desire to "let visitors find a place to dream when they gaze at the dome, and provide a public art space for free thinking and imagination."

Yanchengpu Station

Oujia Drinks

Oujia Drinks, located next to Yanchengpu Station, is known for its signature fresh milk tea with brown sugar and lotus root powder pearls. We ordered the lotus root jelly and kumquat lemon drinks to cool off and quench our thirst.

Love River 愛河

The red and orange Royal Poinciana trees along the Love River, mixed with the yellow Golden Shower trees, filled me with joy.

Pier-2 Art Center

The Pier-2 Art Center was originally a Kaohsiung Port warehouse built in 1973. It was once used to store fishmeal and sugar but was left idle due to industrial transformation. It wasn’t until 2000 that the Kaohsiung City Government revitalized these old warehouses, giving them new life by transforming them into a cultural and creative industries park.

Zhongan Japanese Restaurant

We had dinner at Zhongan Japanese Restaurant, located at No. 65, Wufu 4th Road, Yancheng District.

Cijin 旗津

We took ferry to Cijin.

In Cijin, we also saw yetaixi (Taiwanese opera), which is quite rare nowadays. I remember that when I was young, I used to play around the bamboo stage frame or underneath the stage when no one was performing.

Tomato with Ginger Sauce

A must-try when visiting Kaohsiung is sliced tomatoes dipped in a specially prepared sauce made with soy sauce, freshly ground ginger, licorice powder, sugar, and other ingredients.
