I took my daughter to visit Kaohsiung by high-speed rail. We got off at Zuoying and transferred to the Kaohsiung MRT. At the Formosa Boulevard Station where the Red Line and Orange Line meet, we made an effort to see the "Dome of Light" which was hand-painted by the internationally acclaimed artist Maestro Narcissus Quagliata and used that handmade glass made by the century-old Derix handmade glass workshop in Germany. The "Dome of Light", this public art work conveys the spirit of "inclusiv eness", using four major areas to show the meaning of "water", "earth", "light" and "fire", showing the life of a person in the world, from birth, growth, glory to The reincarnation process of destruction and then rebirth. Master Narcissus’s creation conveys the following concepts: “Through this work, I want to convey the value of human nature, the relationship between people, the environment, and all things; the realm of the unity of man and nature, and what the human heart loses in the struggle of hatred. " He emphasized that he wanted to "let visitors find a place to dream when they gaze at the dome, and provide a public art space for free thinking and imagination."
Yanchengpu Station
The Oujia drinks next to Yanchengpu Station, fresh milk tea with brown sugar and lotus root powder pearls are the signature here. We ordered lotus root jelly and kumquat lemon to relieve the heat and quench our thirst.
The red and orange Royal Poinciana beside the Love River are mixed with the yellow Golden shower trees, which make me elated.
The Pier-2 Art Center was originally a Kaohsiung Port warehouse built in 1973. It used to store fishmeal and sugar, but was left idle due to industrial transformation. It was not until 2000 that the Kaohsiung City Government brought these old warehouses back to life, created a new life, and transformed them into cultural and creative industries park.
Had dinner at Zhongan Japanese Restaurant located at No. 65, Wufu 4th Road, Yancheng District.
In Cijin, we also saw the yetaixi (Taiwanese opera), which is rare nowadays. I remember when I was young, I would play in and out of the bamboo frame or under the stage when people were not performing the show.
A must-try when you come to Kaohsiung is to eat tomatoes and dip in a specially cooked sauce (soy sauce is added with freshly ground ginger, licorice powder, sugar and other ingredients).
