2025 Little League Baseball World Series champions - Taiwan

In 2025, Taipei Dong Yuan Elementary School from Taiwan defeated the United States 7–0, marking 29 years since their last championship. Although I'm not particularly keen on baseball, growing up during the golden era of Taiwanese Little League, I paid close attention to the team as they advanced through the international qualifiers. This victory was incredibly exciting and brought back many fond memories.

The Little League World Series, founded in 1947, is held annually in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, every August. Since its inception, the tournament format has undergone several changes. Starting in 2022, the qualifiers were reorganized into 10 divisions within the continental United States and 10 international divisions. Once each division crowned a champion, the U.S. and international teams would compete for the overall championship. As of 2025, the United States has won 40 championships, with Taiwan—second only to the U.S.—claiming 18. During its dominant era, Taiwan secured 15 championships over a 23-year span from 1969 to 1991.

I remember, as a kid, watching baseball games from Taiwan, which has a 12-hour time difference from Pennsylvania—always in the dead of night. I was young and didn’t understand much about baseball, but I always asked my dad to wake me up to watch the broadcasts. Beyond the game itself, I was just as excited about the snacks he had prepared. Some people recall that, since not every family owned a television back then, their living rooms and outdoor areas would fill with neighbors coming over to watch the games. It shows just how passionate people were about Little League back then. I also remember the early cheerleading squads—unique with their blaring drums and gongs, creating an impressive presence. After a championship win, the crackling of firecrackers could be heard everywhere. These are shared memories of our generation—and they’re truly unforgettable.
