Travel/POI: Thailand Chiang Mai 泰國清邁 2026.01 - 4. Citrus Processing Facility, Fang District, and Mae Ai District

Citrus Processing Facility

We went to visit a citrus washing facility, where oranges that didn't look presentable enough for sale are sent to be washed, then sorted and packaged again before being sent to another plant to be pressed and bottled into orange juice. Unfortunately, we weren't able to reach the person in charge of that facility, so we weren't able to go in and take a look around.

Fang Hot Spring

The Fang District hot springs are located within Doi Pha Hom Pok National Park. This was my third time visiting, and this time we mainly came to soak in the hot springs. A room for 3–5 people only costs 150 baht (US $4.47) — truly a bargain.

Tamora Cafe & Eatery

170 Fang District, Thailand

We came to this little restaurant for lunch, and even before stepping inside, the rose garden at the entrance was already captivating. Once we went in, though, it was a real eye-opener — the restaurant turned out to be full of little surprises everywhere. Out back there was a sizable garden, where besides admiring the beautiful flowers, there was also a sheep pen and a rabbit hutch where visitors could feed the animals. Tables and chairs were scattered here and there under the trees for people to relax at. The food here was quite good too — it was a great spot for a meal, some relaxation, and a few photos to remember it by.

Roi Jai Rak garden

888 Tha Ton, Mae Ai District, Chiang Mai 50280, Thailand

This market-and-garden is located in Tambon Tha Tan, Mae Ai District, Chiang Mai Province, along the road between Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. It is part of the "Roi Jai Rak" project, operated and managed by the Mae Fah Luang Foundation Its main purpose is to help local residents develop alternative livelihoods (likely related to past issues such as opium poppy cultivation, as this type of foundation project mostly belongs to northern Thailand's "Royal Project" series, aiming to improve the lives of highland residents through sustainable agricultural alternatives). This area originally grew corn, and the local community later tried growing coffee, but this was unsuccessful due to a lack of relevant knowledge. The land was subsequently transformed into a tourist attraction, officially opening on December 1, 2020. There is a coffee shop here, and the market sells local villagers' agricultural produce as well as some souvenirs. It is a mixed-use destination that combines tourism, agricultural promotion, and community economic development.

2026.01.21 Odds & Ends 雜記

Even though we could watch the sun rise slowly over the eastern peaks here every day, the sight of that thin mist tinted a warm orange-red never failed to make my heart skip a beat. Then, we followed our junior classmate through a round of exercises — stretching our backs, extending our legs, loosening up our muscles and joints — to kick off the start of a new day.

Breakfast today was something special — Chulin cooked us fresh beef noodle soup made with just-slaughtered beef. After the meal, Brother Wu skillfully brewed coffee for anyone who wanted some. Meanwhile, our senior classmate got started marinating the meat for dinner that evening. With all these preparations taken care of, we were ready to head out and have some fun.

After a full day out, before heading back up the mountain, we stopped by the traditional market again to buy some ingredients for tonight and tomorrow. Every time I browse the market, I can't help but look around curiously, and I often spot some very different foods. It's really interesting.

For dinner, we had scallion pancakes, air-fried pork, and sticky rice. Another full and fulfilling day has come to an end.
