Watch Whale-Watching
On July 22, 2025, I spotted a cluster of boats gathering near Boiler Bay early in the morning. They lingered for a while, then others arrived and departed in a steady rhythm. At first, I wasn’t sure what was happening—until I realized they were whale watching. Whales, those majestic marine mammals, rely on lungs to breathe. Every once in a while they rise to the surface, taking in and expelling air through blowholes. From a distance, you can see bursts of water vapor—each one met with a little thrill of excitement. Depoe Bay is known as the “whale watching capital of the Oregon Coast”. It really lives up to its reputation.
Lincoln City Glass Center
Visiting the Lincoln City Glass Center in the Historic Taft District was a delightful experience. We explored the gallery, admiring the vibrant and intricate glass creations on display. One of the highlights was watching skilled artisans at work, shaping molten glass into beautiful forms. For those feeling adventurous, the center also offers a hands-on opportunity to create your own unique piece of glass art under the guidance of expert glassblowers.
Siletz Bay Pier
Siletz Bay Pier is a popular attraction that offers breathtaking views of the bay and is an excellent spot for fishing and crabbing. We stopped at a well-known restaurant, Mo's Seafood & Chowder, for a quick afternoon meal. Food is decent and price is reasonable.
Siletz Bay Vista Point

On July 23, 2025, our main destination was Crater Lake National Park, which required a nearly five-hour drive. We could only take a quick tour along the way, visiting a few scenic spots briefly. We had to give up on some places and just drove by them. In the end, it still took us 6 hours to reach our destination.
Little Creek Scenic Overlook
Little Creek Scenic Overlook is located 9180 Seagull Way, Seal Rock, OR. Climbing up a small hill, you get to see a beautiful rocky beach below.

Devil's Churn
Devil's Churn, located just north of the Cape Perpetua Visitor Center, is named for its dramatic coastal features—a narrow, rocky inlet where waves churn violently, even on relatively calm days. Over thousands of years, relentless wave action has widened the opening to more than 80 feet. When the tide is high and the waves strike the volcanic rock, ocean spray can shoot up to 200 feet into the air. A paved 0.4-mile trail follows the rugged coastline, offering sweeping views of crashing surf, volcanic tidepools, and wind-sculpted spruce trees. We were in a hurry and only stopped at the visitor center.
Cook's Chasm Area
The Spouting Horn and Thor's Well are two extraordinary natural features found at Cook's Chasm along the Oregon Coast. Over millions of years, relentless waves sculpted the rocky shoreline, carving deep fractures that eventually formed a sea cave. When the cave’s ceiling collapsed, it created Cook's Chasm—setting the stage for the dramatic spouting horn phenomenon.
The Spouting Horn is a geyser-like saltwater fountain powered by the force of the ocean. As waves surge into a hidden cavity beneath the rocks, seawater and air are forced upward through a narrow opening, erupting in a powerful spray that resembles a whale’s blowhole or a natural geyser.
Nearby, Thor’s Well appears like a bottomless sinkhole. At high tide, the scene is mesmerizing—waves crash against the rocks, seawater explodes skyward, and Thor’s Well swallows the surf in a seemingly endless cycle. During low tide, the area reveals a different kind of magic: tide pools brimming with sea anemones, starfish, sea urchins, and vibrant marine algae. These two coastal wonders are accessible via a short, paved 0.8-mile (1.2 km) round-trip trail that begins at the Cape Perpetua Visitor Center. We chose not to take the trail but instead stopped at a nearby turnout to take in the breathtaking view.

Elk Encounter
On the way to Crater Lake National Park, we saw a large herd of elk on the side of the road. We stopped by the side of the road to have lunch and enjoy this leisurely scene. Prepare to embark on the next phase of exploration.
