When I visited Rocky Mountain National Park, one of the highlights was spotting Pulsatilla patens blooming along the trail at Lumpy Ridge. It felt like a treasure hunt, searching for these delicate flowers tucked beside the path as I walked. Pulsatilla patens, also known as Eastern pasqueflower or cutleaf anemone, is a member of the Ranunculaceae (buttercup) family. Although native to parts of Europe, Russia, Mongolia, and China, it can also be found in North America. The name "pasque" comes from the Old French word for Easter, a nod to the flower’s early spring bloom. Interestingly, it's also the state flower of South Dakota.
