Bali District is located at the northwest end of the Taipei Basin, on the west side of the Tamsui River outlet, across from Tamsui District. Research on archaeological sites shows that Indigenous people have been active here in Bali since prehistoric times and have a deep connection with Austronesian Culture. During the kingdom of tungning (1662-1683), there are also records of Spanish and Dutch people here. During the Qing Dynasty, a large number of immigrants came to Taipei. Bali was officially upgraded to zhengkou, a port allowed for cross-strait trade, in 1790. However, the port channel was silted up, and the shipping and port functions were gradually replaced by Huwei (today's Tamsui) on the north coast. It was not until 1990 that Taipei Port was selected for construction in Bali Township, and Bali once again regained its status as an international commercial port. We took the MRT to Tamsui and then took the ferry to Bali. First go to Bali Left Bank Park for a walk.

Originally the Bali Ferry Head Barracks of the Army's 178th Brigade, the bunker lookout was converted into an observation deck. The old Banyan Bunker has now become the Bali Office of the New Taipei City Government's High Riverbank Construction Management Office.

The New Taipei City Foundation for Sustainable Environmental Education was originally the Bali Left Bank Association. It was officially opened in January 2008 and serves as the center for the long-term promotion of sustainable environmental education, conservation and research in New Taipei City. In addition to providing guided tours and left bank wetland tour courses, the center also holds parent-child teaching activities from time to time.

In front of the education center, I saw a stone sculpture of a kappa, which I thought was very special. After researching the information, I learned that the kappa is a legendary creature in Japanese mythology, with the beak of a bird, the limbs of a frog, the body of a monkey, and the shell of a turtle. There are many different legends about kappa in Japan, and the identity of kappa is also different. There are negative and scary characters, and there are also cute and mysterious characters as mascots. This stone sculpture was given to the education center by the Japanese Kappa Association because of Taipei County's achievements in renovating rivers and wetlands in recent years. It symbolizes the protection of river cleanliness. It hopes that the work of renovating rivers can continue and reminds Taiwanese of the importance of water resources and environmental protection. It also hopes that the installation of the kappa stone statue will bring more tourists to Bali Left Bank, especially Japanese tourists, so as to promote local prosperity.

It started to rain, so we had to go back. There were too many people waiting for the ferry, so we decided to have lunch first and visited Ganzi shop (a Hokkien name for a grocery store ) before taking the ferry.
