At the Huntington Library, there are several Puya species. Puya venusta is one of them. It is a rare plant found in certain regions of Chile, including Punta Teatinos and Cerro La Campana. When mature, it produces striking metallic teal-blue, funnel-shaped, waxy flowers that emerge from large, red, pinecone-like clusters atop stiff, upright red stems that can reach up to 40 inches tall.

- This slow growing, stunning, terrestrial perennial forms eye-catching compact rosettes (12”-15” tall) of serrated, silvery white succulent, spiny-tipped (pineapple) leaves. They will form large clumps with age. This plant is monocarpic. When mature, the Puya Venusta bears the blooms of metallic -teal blue, funnel shaped, wax-like flowers. They emerge from huge, red pine-cone like clusters, atop red, stiff, upright stems up to 40” tall.
