新北市平溪區的十分，原來的意思就是「十份」，就是指有十戶人家合作無間地在這裡興建家園。這裏有一條因開採煤礦在 1918 年日治時期興建的鐵路支線「平溪線」，沿著基隆河河谷蜿蜒。戰後 1980 年代時，由於平溪區內煤礦場相繼關閉及人口流失等因素，平溪線的營運虧損，臺灣鐵路管理局曾打算停止平溪線，但經過地方人士的積極爭取而保留。1992 年平溪支線被選為觀光路線，沿途有原始的河谷景觀、壺穴、瀑布，生態資源豐富，旅遊景點甚多，是風景最美麗的客運支線，而十分車站即為其中一站。與火車鐵軌相連的老街，有著招牌天燈帶來的旅遊相關活動，吸引不少國內外的遊客。我們的朋友在 2001 年帶我們來玩，讓我們留下很深的印象。2016, 2024, 2025 我們又有機會到此一遊。
Shifen, located in Pingxi District, New Taipei City, originally meant "ten parts," referring to the ten families who worked together to build their homes there. A branch railway line, the Pingxi Line, was built in 1918 during the Japanese colonial period to facilitate coal mining. It winds along the Keelung River valley. In the 1980s, due to the closure of coal mines and population loss in Pingxi District, the Pingxi Line became unprofitable. The Taiwan Railway Administration considered discontinuing the line, but local residents actively advocated for its preservation. In 1992, the Pingxi Line was designated as a tourist route. Along the way, it boasts pristine river valley scenery, potholes, waterfalls, and abundant ecological resources, offering numerous tourist attractions. Shifen Station is one of these stops, contributing to the line’s reputation as the most scenic passenger branch line in Taiwan. The old street connected to the railway tracks attracts many domestic and international visitors with its signature sky lanterns and related activities. Our friends took us there in 2001, and we were deeply impressed. We have had further opportunities to visit in 2016, 2024, and 2025.
天燈 Sky Lantern
平溪是一個山城，四周皆為高山，溪流湍急，唯流經此地才漸為平緩，故名「平溪子」。早期先民來台開墾，常遭盜匪及原住民的騷擾及搶奪，每每盜匪來臨時，他們只能到山區躲藏，待盜匪離去才能出來回家。由於山區交通與通訊困難，他們就想了一個報平安的方法 - 即是燃放俗稱孔明燈的天燈，只要一看到天燈就代表平安，可以回家。這就是平溪放天燈的由來。
Pingxi is a mountain town surrounded by high peaks. The stream flows rapidly, but only as it passes through this area does it gradually become gentle—hence the name Pingxizi. Early settlers who arrived in Taiwan to cultivate the land were often harassed and robbed by bandits and indigenous people. Whenever bandits approached, the settlers had no choice but to hide in the mountains, waiting until the danger passed before returning home. Due to the difficulties of transportation and communication in the mountains, they devised a way to signal safety: releasing sky lanterns, commonly known as Kongming lanterns. The sight of a sky lantern signified that it was safe and that people could return home. This is the origin of the Pingxi sky lantern tradition.
十分老街 Shifen Old Street
十分老街距離鐵路支線「平溪線」的十分車站非常近，火車直接從老街中央的鐵道穿行而過，營造出獨特而難忘的體驗。在十分老街除了可以放天燈外，這裏還有許多販售紀念品、古早味零食及小吃的店家，可體驗在地文化。
Shifen Old Street is located very close to Shifen Station on the Pingxi Line. Trains run directly along the tracks that pass through the middle of the old street, creating a unique and memorable experience. In addition to releasing sky lanterns, visitors can explore numerous shops offering souvenirs, traditional snacks, and other local delicacies, providing an authentic taste of local culture.

十分瀑布 Shifen Waterfall
十分瀑布地處基隆河上游。瀑布落差約20公尺，寬度約40公尺，外層岩頃向和水流方向相反，屬逆斜層瀑布，與尼加拉瀑布相似，因而有「臺灣尼加拉瀑布」的美譽。
Shifen Waterfall is located in the upper reaches of the Keelung River. It has a drop of approximately 20 meters and a width of about 40 meters. The outer layer of rock slopes in the opposite direction of the water flow, forming a reverse-oblique waterfall. This unique structure, similar to that of Niagara Falls, has earned it the nickname "Taiwan's Niagara Falls."
