An estimated 250,000 people turned out for the 2024 Dodgers World Series championship parade on Friday, November 1, 2024. I was one of them. I don’t usually watch baseball, but this year, with Shohei Ohtani smashing records—54 homers, 59 stolen bases—I couldn’t help but tune in. And the last comeback game? It was pure magic. I sat there, jaw dropped, heart racing, as they pulled off the kind of win that feels like destiny. It made me want to be part of the celebration, to feel that electric joy in person.
We left home around 9:30 and took the light rail to catch the 11 o’clock parade. Luckily, we boarded at an early stop and managed to squeeze in, though by the next few stations, the train was so packed that people were left behind on the platform. When we finally got to our station, even the elevator had given up, broken down under the weight of too many excited fans.
When we reached the parade route, it was a sea of people. I’d been to a Rams parade a few years ago, but this crowd made that one look tiny. I ended up so far from the action that when the open-top bus finally arrived, I couldn’t even tell who was on it. My first attempt at recording with a new video setting was a disaster—a shaky, blurry mess that might show someone’s hand waving if you squint.
Still, despite everything, it was an unforgettable experience. Standing shoulder-to-shoulder with thousands of fans, all of us there to share a moment, I felt like I was part of something bigger—something special.
