Taiwan Travel Journal 2024.05.24

This morning we took my mother to the Department of Neurology at National Taiwan University Hospital for a follow-up consultation. Although her dementia assessment remained at a moderate level, her score had improved compared to last year. The doctor emphasized that achieving this progress wasn’t easy and it was indeed commendable. I have found that recently there were more people coming and going at home, and the opportunities for everyone to interact with mom have increased. My mother became more animated, engaging in conversations, and her memory lapses have reduced. I firmly believe that interactions play a crucial role in slowing down the progression of dementia.

Since the weather was sultry, we decided to go shopping in the Zhongshan Metro Shopping Mall. The underground shopping mall was air-conditioned, and we were not exposed to the sun or rain so it was comfortable to window-shop here. Although we were not very interested in shopping and buying clothes, we walked around and sometimes came across some interesting cultural and creative works. The Zhongshan Metro Shopping Mall (also known as R District Underground Street), formerly known as Taipei Easy Mall is an extensive underground shopping mall in Zhongshan District and Datong District. The mall stretches from Taipei Main Station in the south to Shuanglian Station in the north. In addition to many shopping options, there is also an underground book street "Eslite R79". This mall is definitely a unique shopping place that combines business, art and lifestyle. The Xinzhongshan Linear Park above between MRT Zhongshan Station and Shuanglian Station has special light meal food trucks and music events every weekend. A cultural and creative market is held on the second weekend of every month. It provides a lot of entertainment options here. Jazz Plaza also provides spaces for public hip-hop or cheerleading practices. There was a lot of interesting stuff here and I was looking here and there and forgot to take photos.

Many people practice dancing here in front of a long row of mirrors.

On a hot day, it’s a pleasure to eat a bowl of shaved snow on the way home.
