This morning, we took my mother to the Department of Neurology at National Taiwan University Hospital for a follow-up consultation. Although her dementia assessment remained at a moderate level, her score had improved compared to last year. The doctor emphasized that achieving this progress wasn’t easy and was indeed commendable. I’ve noticed that recently there have been more people coming and going at home, increasing opportunities for everyone to interact with Mom. She has become more animated, engaging in conversations, and her memory lapses have lessened. I firmly believe that interaction plays a crucial role in slowing the progression of dementia.
Zhongshan Metro Shopping Mall
Since the weather was sultry, we decided to go shopping at the Zhongshan Metro Shopping Mall. The underground mall is air-conditioned, so we were sheltered from the sun and rain, making it comfortable to window-shop. Although we weren’t very interested in shopping or buying clothes, we walked around and occasionally came across some interesting cultural and creative works.
The Zhongshan Metro Shopping Mall (also known as R District Underground Street), formerly called Taipei Easy Mall, is an extensive underground shopping area spanning Zhongshan and Datong Districts. The mall stretches from Taipei Main Station in the south to Shuanglian Station in the north. In addition to numerous shopping options, it features an underground book street called "Eslite R79." This mall is definitely a unique place that combines business, art, and lifestyle.
Above the mall, the Xinzhongshan Linear Park—located between MRT Zhongshan and Shuanglian Stations—hosts special light meal food trucks and music events every weekend. A cultural and creative market is held on the second weekend of each month, providing plenty of entertainment options. Jazz Plaza also offers spaces for public hip-hop and cheerleading practices.
There was a lot of interesting stuff here; I was looking around so much that I forgot to take photos.

Many people practice dancing here in front of a long row of mirrors.

On a hot day, eating a bowl of shaved snow on the way home is a real treat.
