Every time we go back to Taiwan, we will definitely go to the night market and eat street food. The night market during the pandemic was very deserted. Not only were there fewer people, but there were also fewer vendors. It was very comfortable to walk on the empty streets. We did not realize that the night market has returned to normal now. We went to the night market on a weekend and were surprised by the crowd. Maybe I stayed in a place where there was hardly a crowd for too long, and I’m not used to it. So when my friend said that after eating dinner he planned to take us for a walk in the night market, we immediately said no. He explained that he was going to take us for a walk in the riverside park near the night market. Raohe Night Market is one of several well-known night markets in Taipei. We have been to it several times, but we never knew that there was a riverside park nearby. He led us through a narrow alley next to Songshan Ciyou Temple next to Raohe Night Market, then turned left and walked straight past the Rainbow Bridge to Rainbow Riverside Park. Looking at the brightly lit park at a glance, next to the Keelung River, there is a red Rainbow Bridge on the right, and a yellow Maishuaiyi Bridge on the left. Twinkling of lights reflecting on the water add a lot of colors to the park. It felt very safe to walk freely in the park at night. There is also a bike lane in the Rainbow Riverside Park and UBikes are available for rent nearby. Basketball, softball and tennis courts can also be found on the ground. It is a good place for exercise. During the day, you can see a large area surrounded by flowers. Different kinds of flowers can be seen in different seasons. There are also a series of love-themed designs for lovers. We did not visit this place during the day so I did not have the photos to share with you. But, the LOVE sculpture and love-locks photos at night are quite prominent.
The bright red S-curve Rainbow Bridge is 167 meters long, spanning the Keelung River and connecting Neihu District and Songshan District. It is only open to people and bicycles so it is very pleasant to stroll on it.
Maishuai is the abbreviation of General MacArthur (Douglas MacArthur, 1880–1964). He served as the commander-in-chief of the Pacific region of the US military during World War II, the supreme commander of the Allied Forces in Japan, and the commander-in-chief of the United Nations in the Korean War. Maishuai Highway was the first expressway in Taiwan, but Maishuai Highway no longer exists and has now been incorporated into the national highway and urban road system. There are a total of 32 bridges along the Maishuai Highway. The Maishuai Bridge is a bridge across the Keelung River on the Maishuai Highway. It was built in 1964 and demolished in 1994. It was rebuilt into the current double-layer bridge, named Maishuaiyi Bridge (Yellow Bridge in the photo ) is Taiwan's first "single-chord arch-rib double-layer steel arch bridge". During the reconstruction period, in addition to a temporary bridge, a new bridge was built less than 400 meters downstream, named Maishuai Second Bridge (the silver bridge in the photo), and it is the first Newelson-style basket steel arch bridge in Taiwan.
