Plant: Birdcage Evening Primrose (Oenothera deltoides)

This Birdcage Evening Primrose with large white flowers can be seen in the sands of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, California. Flowers open in the evening. Oenothera californica (California evening primrose) is very similar to oenothera deltoides but with smaller leaves - often mostly hidden by the large petals; the deltoides species has leaves that are twice as long, projecting out beneath the flower head. It takes me a while to research them. Hopefully I identify the plants in my pictures correctly. The plant is grayish with basal, deltoid leaves. The large white flowers turn pinkish as they mature. When the plants die, the stems curl upward and form the "birdcage" for which the common name is derived.
